What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the term “occupational safety” ? Perhaps personal protective equipment, specifically a hard hat. Or risk assessments, training, company guidelines. Maybe even sitting at a desk and filling out spreadsheets.

But when you think of “occupational safety,” do you think of an app ? We certainly do!

Occupational safety via app?

Yes, occupational safety via app! What may initially sound like a gimmick is actually an extremely useful tool for ensuring occupational safety on the go.

Many aspects of occupational safety don’t happen on a computer. They happen on the construction site, where employees often don’t have a designated location to receive training. They happen in the warehouse, where the occupational safety officer conducts an inspection. Or they happen at a facility where an injury must be reported.

So why tie occupational safety to a stationary location?

An example:

An employee is stocking crates in the warehouse. Due to a moment of inattention, he backs into the pallet truck, trips, and twists his ankle awkwardly. His ankle hurts, but after a short break, the employee returns to work. His colleague reminds him to record the incident in the first-aid book later, but since the pain is already subsiding, the entry is never made.

The accident is quickly forgotten. Until a few days later, the ankle swells and hurts. A visit to the doctor confirms a broken ankle, resulting in several months of absence from work.

What are the consequences now?

Because the incident was not recorded in the first aid book, the foot injury cannot be attributed to a work-related accident. This may mean that accident insurance does not cover the resulting costs of treatment.

This is extremely frustrating, especially for the employee, but also for the employer. For example, misunderstandings canarise that make it seem as if the employer hasn’t acknowledged the accident. This can lead to a loss of trust that could have been avoided.

This is how it works better – thanks to an app!

Now imagine the same example – but with a mobile occupational safety app. The employee can simply open the app immediately after the incident and report it in the digital first aid book – regardless of where he is. Thus, the accident has been reported in compliance with the regulations. The insurance company covers the costs, and after a break to heal, the employee returns to work motivated – and more cautiously!

How else is such an app used?

There are numerous other examples and situations in which an occupational health and safety app can be used. We at domeba also want to utilize this valuable tool and help you keep your employees safe and informed on the go. How does our iManSys app help with this?

  • Employees can report accidents, as in the example, directly via the intuitive interface on their mobile phone or tablet – regardless of location and time!
  • Your employees simply need to log in and see directly which trainings they still need to complete – and can complete them directly in the app at any time!
  • The iManSys app is also used for risk assessments – with checklists that you can easily use offline!

And another fascinating feature? Detecting dangerous situations using artificial intelligence! But more on that in the next tip – stay tuned!😉
